Mix-ins crushed to dust? Use the Mix-In program properly
Never freeze mix-ins in the base. Spin the pint first, make a 1½-inch hole down the middle, add the mix-ins, then press Mix-In. It folds them in gently instead of blending them.
Step by step
- Spin the pint on its program (re-spin if needed).
- Use a spoon or the mix-in tool to make a 1½-inch hole to the bottom.
- Add up to about ¼ cup of mix-ins.
- Press Mix-In.
What works
- Chopped chocolate, mini chips, cookie pieces, graham crumbs, nuts.
- Frozen fruit pieces, chopped small.
- Swirls (caramel, jam) right before serving, by hand.
What doesn't
Big hard chunks that can jam the paddle, and wet mix-ins added before the first spin.
Questions
Can I add mix-ins before freezing?
No. They sink and get pulverised. Add them after the first spin.
